Ambassador Hilale Received in Bangui by President of Central African Republic

Morocco’s permanent representative to the UN, Omar Hilale, was received on Wednesday in Bangui by President of the Central African Republic (CAR), Faustin Archange Touadera.

Hilale’s is paying his third visit to this country in his capacity as the Chair of the Central African Republic Configuration of the Peacebuilding Commission.

On this occasion, Hilale conveyed to President Touadera a message of support for the efforts he made and congratulated him on the success of the donor’s Conference in Brussels, the signing of an agreement under the auspices of the Sant-Egidio community with the participation of the various armed groups, the establishment of a Special Criminal Court and the return of the CAR to the international scene.

In his turn, President Touadera thanked Ambassador Hilale for his invitation to attend a configuration meeting in New York on 16 March, during which he presented before the Security Council his road map to end the crisis in the CAR.

Talks focused on the implementation of the National Recovery and Peacebuilding Plan, including the establishment of the Special Criminal Court and the evaluation of donors contributions to finance these projects.

On this occasion, President Touadera thanked HM King Mohammed VI for the constant and continuous support to his country and commended Morocco’s support in terms of magistrates’ training. He also paid tribute to the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces for their sacrifices and their support to the people of the Central African Republic.

During the visit, Hilale also met with Prime Minister Simplice Sarandji and Deputy-Speaker of the National Assembly, Aurélien Zingas. The two officials thanked Hilale for his personal commitment as an ambassador for peace in the CAR and for the role played by Morocco.

They welcomed also praised the presence of the Royal Armed Forces contingent within MINUSCA and expressed their sincere condolences over the death of Moroccan soldiers in the CAR while performing their peacekeeping missions.

They also lauded he Kingdom's continued support, including scholarships granted to Central African students and the financial support for the conduct of the last elections.

Moreover, the Deputy-Speaker of the CAR National Assembly welcomed the invitation of the Speaker of Morocco’s House of Representatives, Habib El Malki, to strengthen cooperation on parliamentary diplomacy.

During his visit in the country, Hilale will hold talks with representatives of the civil society, religious communities and the various international institutions and organizations present in the CAR.
