Nuclear & Radiation Safety: Morocco Reiterates Firm Commitment to South-South Cooperation

Morocco reaffirmed on Monday its commitment and readiness to promote respect for human rights on the occasion of the 58th session of the Human Rights Council, which runs until April 4 in Geneva.

Speaking at the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Farhane reaffirmed the Kingdom's strong willingness to continue sharing its experience with African countries, while remaining fully engaged with its regional and international partners to contribute to strengthening the international nuclear safety regime and achieving the IAEA’s objectives.

In this respect, he noted that IAEA Director General's report on reviewing nuclear safety in 2025 references certain aspects of Morocco's contribution to enhancing regional capacities.

Morocco, he recalled, trained experts from 21 African member states in fields related to nuclear and radiation safety, and hosted several training sessions and workshops focused particularly on improving nuclear safety in Africa.

The diplomat emphasized that Morocco fully adheres to the principle that nuclear safety falls entirely under the responsibility of states, in accordance with their national obligations and duly undertaken international commitments. In this regard, he noted that Morocco has consistently worked to strengthen its legal framework in the field of nuclear and radiation safety.

He also recalled that the Kingdom has made continuous efforts to upgrade its regulatory framework in nuclear and radiation safety and security, in line with IAEA safety standards.
