UN: Morocco to Coordinate African Group on Economic and Development issues for Second Year in a Row

Morocco has been selected again for the second consecutive year to coordinate the African Group in New York on economic and development issues, in particular at the level of the Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly.

In this regard, the Permanent Mission of Morocco to the UN will assume the role of principal coordinator of the African Group to the United Nations and of its common positions on the crucial issues of sustainable development, the promotion of social and economic development in Africa and the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.

Morocco will thus be in charge of negotiating, with other international partners, on behalf of the African continent.

It will also seek to consolidate common African positions within the framework of multilateral processes in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and post-pandemic recovery, climate action, environmental protection, food security, energy transition, the mobilization of financial resources for sustainable development, the challenges faced by the least developed countries in Africa, the financing of development in Africa, the upgrading of the new partnership for the development of Africa, South-South cooperation and migration.

The Kingdom of Morocco will also work to promote the voice of the African continent within the framework of international multilateralism and develop the role of regional integration in Africa for the achievement of sustainable development goals and ensure the success of a sustainable and inclusive post-pandemic recovery.

The choice of Morocco to coordinate and highlight the positions of the Continent regarding its social and economic development, consolidate and confirm the leading role of the Kingdom in Africa, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, and the confidence that Morocco enjoys among its African peers.
