Copa del Trono de Fútbol: El Olympic Safi gana el título al vencer al Renacimiento Berkane en los penaltis (6-5)

Olympic Club de Safi (OCS) claimed its first-ever Moroccan Throne Cup title on Sunday after edging Renaissance Sportive de Berkane (RSB) 6–5 on penalties, following a 1–1 draw in regulation time at the Fez Sports Complex.

The final, part of the 2023–2024 domestic football season, saw two sides with contrasting ambitions: Safi seeking its maiden trophy, while Berkane aimed for a record-equalling fourth title and a historic treble.

OCS struck first in the 40th minute through a solo effort by Salah Eddine Errahouli, who weaved past defenders before calmly finishing. Berkane equalized on the stroke of halftime, when Issoufou Dayo converted a penalty awarded after a VAR review for a foul on Yassine Lebhiri.

The second half brought more high tempo football, with Berkane pressing for a winner. In the 60th minute, Dayo had a chance to complete a brace from the spot, but his penalty was saved by OCS goalkeeper Khalid Kabiri Alaoui.

Berkane thought they had taken the lead through Oussama Lamlioui, but his effort was ruled offside after a VAR check. Both sides created chances in extra time but failed to find the decisive goal.

In the shootout, Abdelhak Assal’s failed “Panenka” proved costly for Berkane, handing Olympic Safi a historic 6–5 victory.

The win marks a milestone for OCS, securing the club's first major domestic title and earning them a place in Moroccan football history.
