Morocco's Court of Accounts took part in the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI20) Summit, held on June 24-25 in Johannesburg, with a delegation led by its First President Zineb El Adaoui.
For the third consecutive year, Morocco's top audit body took part in the Summit of the G20 member countries, a key platform for dialogue and exchange among the heads of supreme audit institutions (SAIs) of G20 countries. The forum serves as a venue for addressing common challenges in public sector auditing at the international level.
This year’s Summit centered on two key themes of global relevance, namely infrastructure financing for development and upgrading future skills.
In her address during the plenary session, the Court's First President underscored the timeliness and relevance of the issues discussed, emphasizing the challenges they present within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
El Adaoui stressed the need for a structural reform of international development financing, taking into account debt sustainability, climate change repercussions, as well as the principles of justice, inclusion, and Global South countries' representation.
She also highlighted the challenges facing infrastructure project management, namely due to weak governance and a lack of capacity in low-income countries, as well as the role of audit bodies in overcoming these issues.
In this regard, the First President of Morocco’s Court of Accounts underlined the institution’s commitment to supporting the country’s strategic national projects, guided by the enlightened Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
She cited the National Human Development Initiative, which prioritizes the strengthening of infrastructure, the development of public-private partnerships, the enhancement of human capital, and the reinforcement of resilience.
The Court, she emphasized, has incorporated these priorities into its 2022–2026 Strategic Plan, and has conducted high-quality audits and oversight activities. The objective is to create a lasting impact on governance and the management of infrastructure projects, while enhancing the responsiveness of national employment and training policies to Morocco’s socio-economic transformations.
El Adaoui also highlighted the Summit as a platform for sharing expertise, building partnerships, and coordinating the work of the SAI20 Group and the global efforts of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), enabling regional, continental, and national responses to global challenges.
On the sidelines of this event, El Adaoui held a series of bilateral talks with the heads of supreme audit institutions from Saudi Arabia, Brazil, India, Russia, Egypt, and Türkiye, aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation, share expertise and coordinate efforts.
It should be noted that the Court of Accounts of the Kingdom of Morocco contributed to the preparatory technical meetings for the Summit, which took place in February and March.
SAI20 is a dialogue platform bringing together the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of G20 member countries. It is chaired by the SAI of the country holding the G20 Presidency. South Africa holds the G20 Presidency from December 1, 2024, to November 2025.
