The agreement, signed in Rabat by Moroccan Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi and his French counterpart, Gérald Darmanin, builds on a May 31, 2024 action plan that prioritizes counterterrorism and the fight against organized crime.
Both ministers underscored the growing threats posed by these issues nationally and internationally, stressing their impact on security, sovereignty, and economic stability. They pledged to intensify efforts to combat these challenges, mobilizing legal and judicial resources.
Discussions also focused on modernizing the judicial system and improving governance. The ministers agreed on the importance of ongoing training for legal professionals, enhancing administrative management, and fostering legislative development through expertise exchanges.
Ouahbi hailed the agreement as a step toward resolving outstanding legal issues, including revisions to agreements governing the role of lawyers in both countries.
He also emphasized efforts to facilitate legal procedures for Moroccans residing in France, particularly regarding personal status and family law.
Darmanin praised Morocco’s judiciary for its role in fighting terrorism and drug trafficking and reiterated France’s commitment to modernizing the justice system through digitalization and improved working conditions for judicial staff.
Both countries also pledged to simplify legal procedures for their nationals and support reforms in civil law to enhance access to justice.
