The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) hailed the ongoing commitment of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the Family Code reform during its 69th session, as reported by Minister of Social Inclusion Naïma Ben Yahia, in Rabat on Wednesday.
Ben Yahia shared this international acknowledgment during a meeting organized in celebration of International Women's Day, where she outlined the outcomes of the UNCSW session held in New York on March 10-21, noting that the reform has led to significant proposed amendments.
In this regard, she reported that the UNCSW highlighted the progress of Morocco's legislative efforts to promote women's empowerment. It also emphasized the significant and gradual advancements through the revision of discriminatory provisions.
Ben Yahia emphasized that Morocco's participation in the UN event had garnered significant interest from the international community. This interest, she explained, stems from Morocco's unique approach, which blends national specificities with its international commitments in support of girls and women.
At the institutional level, the minister pointed out the establishment of constitutional bodies that play a key part in supporting public policies, emphasizing the strengthening of civil society's role as a major player in improving public policies in this area.
Other programs designed to strengthen female entrepreneurship and improve access to funding were also highlighted, alongside efforts to promote education and training for girls in rural areas, with a focus on schooling and infrastructure, particularly in vulnerable regions.
The meeting, which coincides with the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Platform for Action, honored several women for their remarkable contributions to the defense of women's rights and the improvement of their conditions.
