Tourism Observatory :Tourist Arrivals in Morocco Up 9% in May
A total of 4.1 million tourists visited Morocco between January and May 2018, up 9% compared to the same period a year earlier, the Tourism Observatory said.
The number of foreign tourists increased by 15%, while the arrivals of Moroccans living abroad fell by 1%, the Observatory added in its statistics for the month of May 2018.
The increase was recorded in the main tourist markets, in particular Italy (+ 16%), Germany (+ 12%), France (+ 8%), the Netherlands (+ 8%), the United Kingdom (+ 7%) and Spain (+ 4%), the source noted.
Total overnight stays in tourist accommodation establishments increased by 7% during the first five months of 2018 (+ 11% for non-resident tourists and - 2% for residents).
The two tourist destinations of Marrakech and Agadir generated 60% of total overnight stays at the end of May, according to the Observatory.
Other cities also posted good performances, notably Fez, Rabat and Tangier with increases of 17%, 8% and 7%, respectively.
