A "highly ambitious" program has been approved to increase the capacity of airport traffic in Morocco from 30 million to 80 million passengers by 2030, announced the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, on Wednesday in Casablanca.
An extensive investment program aimed at expanding and modernizing airports in the host cities of the 2030 FIFA World Cup has been approved as part of the "Airports 2030" strategy of the National Airports Office (ONDA), Kayouh stated during the ONDA Board of Directors meeting, which he chaired.
"We are facing major challenges, including preparations for the 2030 World Cup, to support the growth of air transport, improve service quality, and meet visitor expectations while strengthening Morocco's competitiveness as a travel destination," he said.
"This strategic and ambitious program aims to accompany the dynamic growth of the air transport sector in our country, increasing passenger capacity from 30 million to 80 million by 2030," he added.
As part of the national air transport strategy, the minister announced that a plan has been developed to expand Royal Air Maroc (RAM) as the national carrier. A performance contract with the state aims to increase RAM’s fleet from 50 to 200 aircraft by 2037, marking a structural transformation in which ONDA will play a key role.
This includes ensuring the readiness of the operational and logistical system, particularly by strengthening Casablanca Mohammed V Airport's position as an international hub capable of supporting RAM's ambition to become an air bridge between four continents.
Kayouh also highlighted plans to connect Casablanca Airport to the high-speed train (TGV) by constructing a new railway station meeting international standards. This will turn the airport into a key transportation hub, linking road, high-speed rail, and regional rail networks.
Furthermore, he noted the strategic importance of airports in the southern and eastern regions of the Kingdom, which contribute to boosting domestic air transport and increasing the tourism appeal of cities such as Beni Mellal, Ouarzazate, Zagora, Taroudant, Tata, Essmara, and Bouarfa.
