Morocco Re-Elected to WFP Executive Board in Rome

Morocco Re-Elected to WFP Executive Board in Rome

Morocco was unanimously re-elected on Thursday to the seat of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, as the representative of List A (englobing African countries) within the Executive Board of the World Food Programme (WFP) for a one-year term.

This re-election, represented by Ambassador Youssef Balla, Morocco's Permanent Representative to UN Agencies in Rome, underscores the confidence that the Kingdom enjoys in the fight against hunger and malnutrition in Africa, said the Moroccan permanent representation in Rome.

The election, which took place during the 174th UN Food and Agriculture Organization Council, held from December 4 to 8, also reaffirms the Kingdom's commitment to strengthening global food security and humanitarian actions, the same source further noted.

Morocco has been a member of the WFP Executive Board since December 2020 and currently holds the position of Vice-President of the Board. Additionally, Morocco serves as the coordinator for African countries within the Board's office.

The WFP Executive Board, as the governing body of the largest humanitarian agency dedicated to saving lives in times of crisis, plays a crucial role in developing strategic plans to assist countries in meeting their food and nutritional needs. It also supports the strengthening of resilience in communities affected by crises and the impacts of climate change.
