Morocco Celebrates Africa Day at AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa

Morocco celebrated Africa Day in Addis Ababa on Thursday, at a ceremony organized at the headquarters of the pan-African organization by the Kingdom's Permanent Mission to the African Union, in the presence of the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid.

Morocco's participation in the celebration of Africa Day was particularly noteworthy for its impressive stand, which gave visitors, diplomats and African and international personalities the opportunity to learn more about the diversity and authenticity of the Kingdom's culture and civilization.

The stand was also an opportunity for the audience to follow explanations of the actions undertaken by the Kingdom under the visionary leadership of HM King Mohammed VI in favor of Africa, and to mark Morocco's strong presence within the pan-African organization as part of the royal vision of South-South cooperation for Africa and the African Citizen.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication stressed that these celebrations are an opportunity to pay tribute to the founders of the African Union, recalling that Morocco was one of the founding countries of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now the African Union (AU).

"Africa is made up of diverse and diversified cultures, peoples, ideas and languages," noted the Minister, asserting that these celebrations are an opportunity for the Kingdom to raise awareness of its culture and its tangible and intangible heritage.

It is also an occasion to highlight the Kingdom's achievements within the AU, under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, who attaches particular importance to South-South cooperation, he said.

Several meetings were organized during the month, including the 1st African Ministerial Youth Conference, which was held in Rabat, he said, recalling that the Moroccan capital was celebrated for a year as the 1st African Capital of Culture.

For his part, the Kingdom's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the AU and UNECA, Mohamed Arrouchi, stressed that Africa Day is an opportunity to highlight the Kingdom's strong and credible presence within the pan-African organization.

It is also an opportunity to highlight actions undertaken in various areas of cooperation with African countries as part of the royal vision of South-South cooperation in the service of the Continent and African citizens, the Moroccan diplomat noted.
