Speaking at the session via videoconference, Morocco's Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka congratulated the outgoing Presidency, Egypt, on the excellent work accomplished during its term of office, and wished full success to Senegal, which will assume the next term of the AMCOW Presidency, a press release from the Ministry of Equipment and Water says.
Baraka also thanked Mauritania, AMCOW's outgoing Vice-President for the North African Region, for all its efforts to defend the cause of water in this region, which faces enormous challenges in terms of water stress.
“The Kingdom of Morocco, which will take over and assume the Council's Vice-Presidency for the North Africa Region for the next term 2025-2027, is committed to furthering these efforts and developing actions to meet these challenges”, he stressed.
The Minister recalled that, in line with the High Royal Guidelines, cooperation with African countries is a priority axis of Morocco's foreign policy, noting that the place of the water sector in the momentum of Morocco-African cooperation is increasingly significant, particularly as this sector is bearing the full brunt of climate change's effect.
In the same vein, Baraka reaffirmed Morocco's willingness to continue sharing with African countries its accumulated experience in the water sector, as well as its proven best practices, while seeking inspiration from African success stories in this vital field.
After outlining the many challenges and major issues facing the water sector in Africa, the Minister of Public Works and Water stressed the need to formulate a post-2025 African Water Vision that would fundamentally address the many challenges.
In this same context, the Minister announced that Morocco will host the next meeting dedicated to regional technical consultations to prepare the Africa Water Vision beyond 2025 for North Africa, the press release concludes.
