“This development has resulted in economic stability and diversification, with an increase in the competitiveness and attractiveness of the Moroccan economy for investment, particularly from Europe”, de Bassompierre told MAP.

Several sectors have experienced this momentum, including automotive, aeronautics, renewable energies and finance, he noted.

“We support multiple Moroccan financial institutions in their deployment beyond the Kingdom's borders”, de Bassompierre stated, asserting that access to financing and economic inclusion are an important factor in Morocco's economic development.

On this occasion, he praised the Kingdom's commitment to sustainable development under the Sovereign's leadership.

De Bassompierre then affirmed than “the EIB supports energy and environmental transition, which is at the heart of the partnership between the European Union and Morocco.

“Our assessment of the Moroccan economy and its development is very positive,” he said.

As for the Morocco-BEI partnership, de Bassompierre noted that the year 2024 symbolically enabled the Bank to cross the €10 billion mark invested in Morocco since it began operations in 1979.

“This reinforces the very important partnership we have maintain with Morocco for many years”, he pointed out, adding that in 2024, the EIB committed €500 million, representing an acceleration of over 50% in the Bank's investments compared with the previous year.

The head of the EIB spoke of a very promising outlook, focusing on five main areas: development and support for the private sector, reinforcement of drinking water access networks, support for Morocco's energy transition, support for sustainable transport in Morocco and reinforcement of advanced decentralization.

“These areas fall in line with Morocco's priorities, which offer promising prospects, particularly in view of the very important deadlines awaiting the Kingdom, notably the 2030 World Cup, which is an opportunity to accelerate the country's development”, de Bassompierre noted.

According to him, this event holds a major symbolic significance, as it will be co-organized by two European countries and Morocco, supporting the partnership and solidarity between the two shores of the Mediterranean.

“For us, this is an opportunity to support the modernization of infrastructure in Morocco, particularly in terms of energy, improved energy efficiency and mobility”.
