HRH Prince Moulay Rachid Chairs Mohammed VI International Athletics Meeting

HRH Prince Moulay Rachid chaired here on Sunday evening the 7th Mohammed VI international athletics meeting.

Held for the first time in Marrakech, the event, 7th stage of the IAAF world challenge, brought together world-renowned athletes, from 44 countries, including Morocco represented by 38 athletes.

Upon arrival at the Grand stadium of Marrakesh, HRH the Prince was greeted by chairman of Morocco's royal athletics federation (FRMF) Abdeslam Ahizoun, youth and sport minister, Mohamed Ouzzine, General de Corps d'armée and chairman of the Moroccan national Olympic committee, Hosni Benslimane, president of the International Athletics associations federation (IAAF) Lamine Diak, President of the African athletics confederation, Hamad Malbom Kalkaba, IAAF council member and vice-president of the international Olympic Committee (IOC) Nawal El Moutawakil, Member of the Diamond League council, Patrick Magyar, IAAF secretary general, Essar Gabriel, and secretary general of the African Athletics Confederation, Lamine Faty, as well as by representatives of local authorities.

HRH Prince Moulay Rachid received on this occasion Lamine Diak, the IAAF president and Hamad Malbom, president of the African athletics Confederation.

New Zealand’s Valerie Adams (shot put), Tatyana Lysenko from Russia ( Hammer), South Africa’s Simon Magakwe ( 100 m) or Ethiopia’s Mohammed Amman (800 m) participated in the 2014 edition, the third stage of the IAAF World Challenge.

A total of 38 Moroccan athletes also lined up, including Abdelaati Iguider and Mohamed El Kaam for the men's 1,500m and Rababe Arrafi and Malika Akkaoui respectively for the women's 1,500m and (800m).
