Upgrading the health sector is an essential lever for implementing HM King Mohammed VI's vision to achieve the expected socio-economic growth, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch said on Monday at the House of Representatives.
Speaking at question time, Akhannouch stressed that the reform of the health system reflects speaks of serious governmental commitments and reflects its real political will to create structural change in this sector.
Upgrading the health sector is by no means a secondary reform, but an essential lever for the implementation of HM King Mohammed VI's vision for a future Morocco, and achieving the coveted socio-economic development, he continued.
In this respect, he pointed out that the government is carrying out a radical and comprehensive reform of the healthcare system, through the adoption of a series of decisions and a battery of unprecedented measures, which have contributed to a genuine transformation of the sector.
The government, he recalled, had enacted the framework law on the national healthcare system, which forms the basis for all reform measures, with a view to establishing a modern and efficient healthcare sector.
He further added that this legislative framework is based on four main axes, namely the establishment of good governance and the strengthening of its regional dimension, the training and encouragement of human resources, the upgrading of healthcare provision and the enshrining of the sector's digitization.
As a concrete expression of this ambitious vision, the government has undertaken colossal efforts to mobilize the necessary funding for this overhaul, since the budget dedicated to the sector has been revised upwards in an unprecedented manner, rising from MAD 19.7 billion in 2021, to MAD 32.6 billion in 2025, an increase of over 65% during the current government mandate, Akhannouch pointed out.
He also highlighted the success of extending medical coverage to all Moroccans, on an equitable basis and without exception, whereas this right had previously been mainly privy of civil servants and salaried workers.
Guaranteeing health security has become a strategic lever for the Executive to support the drive to generalize health coverage, in line with the Royal High Directions and the timetable set for this, he concluded.
