Morocco’s commitment to a more accessible and transparent justice system was highlighted on Wednesday in Nairobi during the Africa and Middle East Regional Meeting of the Open Government Partnership (OGP).
Speaking at the event, Mohamed Amine El Jardani, a magistrate and head of department at the Ministry of Justice, outlined the country’s efforts to bring justice closer to citizens and strengthen openness and transparency within Morocco’s judicial system.
He emphasized major reforms undertaken by the Ministry, including legislative and institutional initiatives aimed at modernizing the judicial system. Among them is the law on arbitration and conventional mediation, which allows citizens to use alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to avoid the complexity of traditional court proceedings.
Jardani also discussed the adoption of a new law on alternative sentences, set to take effect soon, which aims to reduce prison overcrowding while providing substitutes for incarceration.
In the same spirit, he highlighted the revision of Morocco’s judicial map, which includes the creation of new courts to bring judicial services closer to citizens.
Emphasizing progress in digitizing judicial procedures, he pointed to new legislative measures designed to facilitate access to justice services.
These reforms are part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts to promote open governance and modernize public services in line with international standards, he concluded.
