Morocco Underwent Profound Industrial Transformation Over Past Two Decades

Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has undergone a profound industrial transformation over the past two decades, said Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour on Sunday in Riyadh.

Speaking at the preliminary session of the 21st General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), attended by Morocco's ambassador to Saudi Arabia Mustapha Mansouri, and the Kingdom's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna Azzedine Farhane, Mezzour emphasized that this momentum, initiated with the Emergence Plan and consolidated by the current focus on industrial sovereignty, is part of a consistent Royal vision aimed at establishing industry as the pillar of an integrated, inclusive, and sustainable economic takeoff for the Kingdom.

This vision has now been fully realized, with industrial production doubling over the past decade, as have exports, while the sector now generates more than one million jobs, he explained.

With regard to the automotive industry, he reported a national integration rate of 69%, with a production capacity of one million vehicles per year and an ambition to reach two million units by 2030.

Concerning aeronautics, the minister highlighted a major leap illustrated by the launch of the industrial complex dedicated to aircraft engines, a project that strengthens Morocco's position as a strategic global hub and one of the few countries capable of producing this type of equipment. He noted that industrial land development has increased from 10,000 hectares in 2021 to 14,500 hectares today, spread across 157 industrial zones.

Referring to cooperation with UNIDO since 2019 through the Programme for Country Partnership (PCP Morocco), Mezzour emphasized that collaboration with this organization has brought about significant added value to the Kingdom's industrial transformation process.
