Morocco is participating in the General Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), taking place in Geneva through July 17, with the participation of over 1,000 delegates, including some 40 ministers.
Morocco is represented at the opening session of this major event for innovation and intellectual property, which began on Tuesday, by a delegation led by the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid.
During these assemblies, participants will examine the work program for the next biennium, 2026-27, as well as the program's activities in 2024.
One of the highlights of the meeting will be the launch on Wednesday of the “World Intangible Investment Highlights” report, which will examine activities in 2024 and long-term trends in investment in data, software, research and development, brands, and other intellectual property-protected assets that are playing an increasingly important role in global GDP.
The event will also feature the announcement of the winners of the WIPO Global Awards. Launched in 2022, the WIPO Global Awards recognize small businesses, young start-ups, and university spin-outs that have leveraged intellectual property and supported innovation and creation in exceptional ways to achieve business goals and improve society.
The Moroccan delegation also includes Morocco's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Omar Zniber; the Director General of the Moroccan Office for Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC), Abdelaziz Babqiqi; and the Director General of the Moroccan Copyright Office (BMDA), Dalal Mhamdi Alaoui.
