Morocco, Lesotho, and Pakistan Upper Houses to Boost Parliamentary Cooperation

Morocco's Upper House and its counterparts from Lesotho and Pakistan signed two memoranda of understanding on parliamentary cooperation on Monday, on the sidelines of the 3rd South-South Parliamentary Dialogue Forum.

The two MoUs were signed by the Upper House Speaker, Mohamed Ould Errachid, and his counterparts, the President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Mamonaheng Mokitimi, and the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Yousuf Raza Gilani.

They aim to strengthen parliamentary dialogue and contribute to the enhancement of bilateral relations and ties of friendship.

They also seek to promote cooperation on legislative and technical matters through the structural frameworks of the legislative and administrative institutions of the signatory parties, or through friendship groups.

The parties further commit to developing initiatives to strengthen the capacities of parliamentary staff working within the legislative institutions of the signatory parties, as well as administrative initiatives.

These include the organization of conferences, forums, media seminars, staff training programs, workshops, and international events that foster the study and exchange of information on key issues, in addition to parliamentary work and procedures.

The objectives also include the defense of common interests within multilateral parliamentary bodies at the regional, continental, and international levels.

This move responds to the need for the concerned legislative institutions to continue strengthening relations and partnerships in order to capitalize on the opportunities offered by bilateral cooperation at the economic, political, and cultural levels.
