Morocco Gaming Expo Plays Leading Role in Strengthening, Consolidating Video Game Industry Concept

The Morocco Gaming Expo, the first event of its kind on the African continent, plays a leading role in strengthening and consolidating the concept of the video game industry, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid stressed on Tuesday in Rabat.

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 3rd edition of the Morocco Gaming Expo, chaired by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, the minister noted that the Kingdom has invested over recent years in the gaming industry, a sector that will create new jobs and contribute to the development of the cultural economy in the Kingdom.

This industry represents more than 300 billion dollars globally, he said, adding that Morocco’s challenge is to reach, by 2030 or 2032, 1% of the global turnover of this sector.

Several specialized companies are active in this sector in Morocco, where the challenge lies in continuing to develop this field year after year, he stressed, recalling in this regard that the number of start-ups specialized in the video game industry has increased from three or four in 2022 to more than 40 currently nationwide.

The minister affirmed that this sector constitutes an opportunity to create new jobs and promote the national economy, in addition to contributing to enhancing the profile and international outreach of the Moroccan economy.
