The Kingdom of Morocco reaffirmed, Tuesday before the executive council of the African Union (AU), its conviction that the effectiveness of continental action is based on modern, rigorous and intensively results oriented administrative and financial governance, at the service of the vital interests of African citizens.
Speaking during the examination of the administrative and financial issues of the African Union at the 49th ordinary session of the organization's executive board, the Moroccan delegation stressed that the management of AU's resources must form part of a strategic vision that prioritizes efficiency, impact and value creation for the benefit of African member States and populations.
The Kingdom pleaded in favor of a gradual evolution from a "financial budget" logic to a "strategic budget", linking the allocation of resources to continental priorities, the performance of the Union's institutions and the concrete results expected on the ground, in line with the objectives of Agenda 2063.
Morocco also stressed the need to bolster the operational capacities of African institutions performing in strategic sectors, including the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), in order to reinforce the continent's health security.
He also urged greater support for the departments in charge of agriculture, education, science, technology and innovation, as they are considered essential drivers of inclusive, sustainable and resilient development.
In addition, the Moroccan delegation emphasized the importance of a governance based on the principles of good management, transparency, accountability and performance evaluation, believing that these principles constitute essential levers in order to improve the efficiency of the African Union's action and build trust among the member States in its institutions.
The Kingdom also reaffirmed that the collective ambition must be : To transform the African Union from a logic of administrative management into a genuine results-oriented culture, capable of providing concrete responses to the challenges facing the continent, more particularly in the areas of health, food security, education, innovation, science, technology, and economic transformation.
Morocco thus renewed its commitment to a more effective, efficient, and citizen-oriented African Union, stressing that strategic, accountable, and results-driven governance is an essential lever for accelerating the implementation of Agenda 2063 and responding to the legitimate aspirations of African peoples.
Morocco is taking part in the 49th Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council through a delegation led by Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
