Moroccan Police Arrest Interpol-Flagged Swedish National

Moroccan police at the Casablanca's Mohammed V airport arrested Wednesday a Swedish national of Turkish origins flagged by Interpol, following a red notice issued in 2024 by his country's judicial authorities.

The check of Interpol's database revealed that the 68-year-old suspect was wanted under a warrant by the Stockholm National Central Bureau for the enforcement of a prison sentence issued against him for his involvement in violent sexual assaults in 2021.

The suspect was taken into custody immediately on his arrival aboard a flight from Turkey, pending referral to the competent public prosecutor's office, according to a security source.

Meanwhile, the National Central Bureau in Rabat, operating under the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), notified its Swedish counterpart of the arrest under the extradition procedure, adds the same source.

This operation is part of the Moroccan security services' commitment to implement the international security cooperation mechanisms, particularly in tracking down and arresting individuals wanted internationally for cross-border crimes.
