Moroccan Artists Ghizlane Agzenaï and Younes Khourassani Featured alongside Masters of Geometric Abstraction in Geneva

La Galerie 38, the first Moroccan gallery to establish itself in Switzerland, has launched its autumn season with a major group exhibition entitled "GEOMETRIE-S." The show brings together fourteen artists and runs from September 17 to November 1 as part of Geneva Art Week.

The exhibition creates an unprecedented dialogue between historical pioneers of abstract art and both established and emerging contemporary artists. Legendary figures include Victor Vasarely (1906–1997), Julio Le Parc (1928–), and Francisco Sobrino (1932–2014). The exhibition also shines a spotlight on Moroccan artists Ghizlane Agzenaï and Younes Khourassani, whose works reflect the dynamism of geometric abstraction in Morocco today.

The opening, held Wednesday evening, drew a large audience of art lovers, collectors, curators, and representatives of Geneva’s cultural scene. The lively atmosphere and strong turnout marked an immediate success for the gallery, which only opened its doors in Geneva a few months ago.

"In this second exhibition by La Galerie 38 in Geneva, we selected fourteen artists, including world-renowned figures such as Julio Le Parc and Victor Vasarely," Mohamed Chaoui El Faiz, co-founder of La Galerie 38, told MAP.

"We brought together works from all over the world. Amongst the artists present, we are also keen to highlight Moroccan artists with remarkable works, as there is a real current of geometric abstraction in Morocco," he said at the opening.

Ghizlane Agzenaï, originally from Tangier, has made her mark with vibrant works that range from colorful totems and monumental frescoes to light installations. Combining paint, wood, neon, and hybrid materials, her practice creates a visual universe that is both powerful and accessible. Her pieces in GEOMETRIE-S embody this signature style, where form becomes a channel of energy.

Younes Khourassani, a graduate of the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Casablanca, has been exploring themes of light, transparency, and surface transformation for over two decades. His works in the exhibition establish a dialogue between inner abstraction and geometric structuring in an aesthetic that is at once restrained, technical, and contemplative.

By uniting works from diverse cultural contexts—from Europe and Latin America to Morocco—the GEOMETRIE-S exhibition affirms the enduring relevance of geometric abstraction.

For La Galerie 38, with locations in Casablanca, Marrakech, and now Geneva, the exhibition is a way of affirming its role as a bridge between African and European art scenes while promoting Moroccan artists.
