The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity is organizing, on March 20-22, a medical-surgical campaign to benefit the populations of the Taounate province, as part of its medical-humanitarian activities during the month of Ramadan.
In a press release, the Foundation states that this initiative addresses a dual need: to provide cataract surgery care and to facilitate access to specialized healthcare for populations of Bouhouda commune and ten other neighboring communes in the Taounate area.
Through this solidarity project, the Foundation will provide 120 surgical procedures, while offering a target population of 4,500 people various medical services.
General medical consultations, dental care and specialized consultations in ENT, ophthalmology, pediatrics, cardiology, gastroenterology, gynecology and rheumatology are among the services made available. Special attention will be given to screening and providing aid for people with physical disabilities, the Foundation says.
To ensure optimal care, significant human, technical and logistical resources have been deployed. A team of 120 people is involved in this medical campaign, including doctors, managers, social workers and technicians from the Foundation, 32 specialist doctors including 8 ophthalmologic surgeons, 10 general practitioners and 20 nurses, supported by volunteers assisting the population.
Two sites will host the campaign: Bouhouda, located 17 km from Taounate, and the provincial hospital of Taounate. The main site, set up as a platform in Bouhouda, will centralize specialized services, cataract screening and aid devices for people with physical disabilities.
It includes reception areas, recording and vital signs taking, an aid workshop and specialized medical workstations, including one dedicated to telemedicine. These spaces are complemented by 11 mobile medical units, for consultations in various specialties (ophthalmology, gynecology, dental care, etc.), biological analyses, ultrasound examinations and medical distribution.
The surgical interventions will take place at the provincial hospital of Taounate, where two operating theaters, each with four workstations, have been set up for the occasion.
This operation is being carried out with the support of local authorities, the Fès-Meknès Regional Health and Social Protection Department and the Taounate Provincial Delegation, the Fès University Hospital (CHU), the Taounate Provincial Hospital, the Friends of the Visually Impaired Association of Fès, the Provincial Association for the Support of Patients with Renal Insufficiency in Taounate, the Initiatives Santé Aide au Développement Association and the Dentist’s Unions of Fès and Region.
From January to March 2025, the Foundation ran three similar campaigns in Zagora, Tan Tan and Berkane-Oujda. They enabled 7,659 people, including 5,030 women, to be treated, and 249 surgical procedures (cataracts, general and children's surgery, circumcisions) and 14,874 medical procedures and specialized treatments to be carried out.
This new campaign is part of the same dynamic: to bring healthcare closer to rural populations, to relieve them and contribute to improving their well-being, concludes the press release.
