The construction of a bi-directional corridor between Africa, Europe, and the Atlantic Basin is not only a question of security on the equation of competitiveness, “but also a question of affordability for all and everyone in our region”, said Ms. Benali.
She was speaking at a meeting at CERAWeek, a gathering of global energy leaders attended by U.S. secretaries of Energy Chris Wright and Interior Doug Burgum, as well as by several ministers and executives from the oil and gas industry.
The Atlantic Corridor, she said, can "give access to other forms of energy to 400 million consumers in Africa" and achieve significant economies of scale.
Outlining the broad lines of Morocco's energy strategy, the minister emphasized that connectivity is an essential pillar of a three-pronged policy, the other two being renewable energies and energy efficiency.
It is part of this vision that the north-African Kingdom has invested heavily in achieving connectivity with the aim of "unleashing economic growth in this part of Africa and connecting it to Europe,” she explained.
The construction of the Africa-Atlantic gas pipeline is a key element in this strategy, the minister stressed, adding that besides gas supplies, the Africa-Atlantic gas pipeline could also be used to transfer green hydrogen.
Recognized as the foremost annual gathering in the energy sector, CERAWeek 2025 convenes over 450 C-Suite executives, as well as a large number of ministers and top officials and experts.
This premier event, which gathers more than 10,000 participants from over 2,050 companies across 80 countries, offers a platform for dialogue on the agenda ahead as the world enters a new era of energy transition.
