Anti-Terrorism: Morocco Calls For Close Coordination Between Arab Countries

Morocco called, here Thursday, for coordination among Arab countries to face terrorism, stressing that no country alone can eradicate this cross-border phenomenon.

Speaking at the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers, Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar said that extremist terrorism aims to undermine the foundations of the State, threaten the future and hamper the development process that Arab countries are initiating in a difficult economic environment.

 "We should not rely on others to fight this phenomenon" that has taken roots in some Arab countries, but face it in Arab societies and among young people in particular, he said.

In this sense, he explained that "it is necessary to adopt a three-dimensional approach based on security, ideological and development components to eradicate this phenomenon". 

These dimensions are reflected through the adoption of security governance, the promotion of the principles of moderation and tolerance, the fight against poverty and the achievement of sustainable development.

Mezouar also highlighted Islamophobia which undermines Arab-Muslim communities in foreign countries, stressing that it has taken roots among some circles in the world, taking advantage of the bloody events that occurred in the name of religion.
