Minister delegate for the Interior Charki Draiss underlined, on Monday in Tunis, the importance of the 6th session of AMU's interior ministers council, which is an occasion to elaborate a comprehensive approach to counter all threats facing the region and devise joint strategy in this regard.

The Maghreb building has always been a priority for Morocco which is driven by a real will to revive the Arab Maghreb Union as an ineluctable choice, said Draiss quoted in a statement by the interior ministry.

On this occasion, he highlighted the need to foster cooperation between Maghreb and Sahel countries, underlining the necessity to set up a sustainable partnership with the Sahel region based on dialogue and sharing experiences to fight all forms of crime that hamper peace, stability and development.

The interior ministry services will spare no efforts to reinforce security cooperation with their peers in Maghreb countries based on shared responsibility and mutual trust, he said, lauding the momentum of the council and the regular meetings held to examine means to reinforce cooperation and make proposals under the competence of AMU’s interior ministers.

He also stressed the importance of this meeting which takes place at a juncture marked by the upsurge of security threats requiring more vigilance, coordination and common actions.

Draiss also presented the proactive approach carried out by Morocco to face terrorist threats and which relies on the legal arsenal, the religious field reform, the promotion of development efforts and the preservation of security while respecting the law and human rights.
