Al Boraq, First High-Speed Train in Africa, Symbol of Performance & Sustainable Commitment

Al Boraq, first high-speed train in Africa, launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in November 2018, is a symbol of performance and commitment to a sustainable mobility with strong socio-economic impact.

Thanks to its various positive spin-offs, the High-Speed Line has proved to be an innovative solution and a natural choice for boosting the national transport system, reinforcing multi-modality and preserving the environment.

Al Boraq, operating on clean energy, plays a key role in strengthening national economic integration. By linking Casablanca to Tangier in record time, it brings together two hubs of the Moroccan economy.

On the one hand, Casablanca, the Kingdom's industrial and financial powerhouse. On the other hand, Tangier, which in just a few years has become a leading industrial platform, thanks in particular to the Tanger-Med port complex, is establishing itself as a strategic hub at the gateway to Europe.

By improving the flow of people (5.5 million passengers in 2024) between the two metropolises, Al Boraq stimulates economic synergies, facilitates investment, and enhances Morocco's attractiveness as a gateway between Africa and Europe. This fast, modern rail link embodies a new era of connectivity and balanced regional development.

Since its commissioning, Al Boraq train connecting Tangier to Casablanca has considerably improved rail services, while offering greater comfort and safety for train users.

The new Kenitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail Line is thus part of the ongoing development of the Kingdom's rail network, and has established itself as the most efficient and sustainable mode of passenger transport over medium and long distances.

The project will free up capacity on the existing conventional line, which will promote the development of local metropolitan trains in the conurbations of Rabat, Casablanca, and Marrakech.

Through such structuring projects, Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aims to consolidate and modernize its rail network to meet the 2030 challenges, in order to accelerate the country's economic growth and strengthen exchanges with the rest of the continent.
