Upper House Speaker : Betting on Vital Roles of Middle Class, Key Element for Implementing New Development Model

Betting on the vital roles of the middle class is an important element for the establishment of a new development model and a balanced society based on stability and social justice, said, Wednesday in Rabat, speaker of the House of Advisors, Hakim Benchamach.

Speaking at the opening of the fifth parliamentary forum on social justice in the House of Advisors, organized under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, under the theme "The enlargement of the middle class: locomotive of sustainable development and social stability", Benchamach stressed that the interest for this class requires a new development strategy as well as the determination of priorities and programs, in accordance with the needs of the different social classes, in particular the middle class.

In addition, Benchamach said that the awareness of the importance of the middle class and its role in society entails placing it at the center of the future development model.

In this regard, the speaker of the upper house noted that Morocco cannot achieve its economic take-off and attain peace and social cohesion without the maintenance and expansion of this stratum of society.

He also highlighted the various shortcomings in public policies that result in significant additional costs and burdens for families, including the high cost of real estate and private education, poor public transport, as well as the poor quality of the public health system, noting that only 15% of Moroccan families are part of the middle or upper classes.
