Spanish Interior Minister Highlights Efficiency of Morocco-Spain Security Cooperation

Spanish Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido highlighted the efficiency of the Moroccan-Spanish security cooperation following the arrest on Tuesday of five members of an ISIS-linked terrorist cell during a joint counterterrorism operation conducted in Spain and Morocco.

This operation shows the great efficiency of cooperation relations between Morocco and Spain, whose security services are closely and tirelessly working to arrest terrorists wherever they are, Zoido told the press.

"I would like to congratulate the Moroccan security services for the anti-terrorism operation which was crowned today by the arrest of 5 alleged terrorists who belong to a cell meant to perpetrate attacks in Spain and Europe," said the Spanish top official.

Zoido hailed the excellent Moroccan-Spanish relations, mainly in the counterterrorism field.

The central bureau of judiciary investigations (BCIJ), under the general directorate for national territory surveillance, dismantled Tuesday, in coordination with the Spanish security services, a terror cell affiliated with Daech (ISIS) and composed of 5 members aged 22 to 33, announced the Moroccan ministry of Interior in a statement.

This operation, which is part of the cooperation between the Moroccan and Spanish security services in a context marked by the persistence of threats by the so-called "Islamic State" organization against the stability of the Kingdom and its allies, allowed the arrest of three individuals who are active in the city of Fnideq, in conjunction with the arrest of two other people in Bilbao (Spain), holders of Moroccan and Senegalese nationalities.

This operation confirms the continuation of terrorist threats in the midst of the determination of supporters of Daech's extremist thinking to commit terror acts in different regions of the world, said the Interior ministry.

The suspects will be brought to justice once the investigation is completed under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor.
