Sahara Issue: USA 'Very Favorable' to Autonomy Plan

United States House of Representatives Majority Whip Steve Scalise said, Thursday in Rabat, he is "very favorable" to the autonomy plan in the Sahara, which he described as "credible and serious".

"We are very favorable to this plan, which is very credible and serious," Scalise told the press at the end of his talks with minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nasser Bourita.

He added that Morocco has been forthright in trying to present a real solution to this dispute.

The US congressman also noted that Morocco and the United States share common values and an important friendly relationship “that goes back to the founding of the United States”.

In this regard, he stressed that the two countries have a "strong partnership", particularly in the fight against the terrorist threat, in order to bring peace to the world.

"We are here to express our strong support for this relationship between the United States and Morocco," he stressed.
