NAM: Baku Conference Lauds HM the King's Role in Defending Palestinians' Rights

The 18th conference of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM), held in Baku on April 3-6, under the theme "promoting world's peace and security for sustainable development", adopted the final "Baku Statement" in which foreign ministers lauded the role of HM King Mohammed VI, in his capacity as chairman of Al Quds Committee, in defending the rights of the Palestinian people including the right to an independent and viable state with Al Quds Asharif as capital.

In the Document, the Foreign Ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement highlighted the letters sent by HM the King to United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres on July 25, 2017, condemning the Israeli violations of Al Haram Sharif, and that of December 7, 2017, following the decision of the US administration to recognize Al-Quds as the capital of Israel.

The Ministerial Conference of Baku hailed the role of Morocco in peacekeeping operations at the level of the United Nations, notably through its status as coordinator of the Non-Aligned Movement Working Group on United Nations peacekeeping operations.

The Foreign Ministers also welcomed Morocco's significant contribution to the fight against terrorism at the regional and international levels.

They supported and encouraged Moroccan national and regional initiatives on human development and sustainable development, as well as the fight against climate change and the issue of migration.

Regarding the question of the Moroccan Sahara, the Ministerial Conference of Baku reaffirmed the resolutions adopted since 2007 by the UN Security Council, date of the submission of the Moroccan autonomy initiative, on the basis of the exclusive UN-brokered political process. The Ministers took note of developments taking place since 2006, referring to Morocco's efforts to find a political solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

In this regard, they called on the States of the region to fully cooperate with the Secretary General and his Personal Envoy and with each other to move forwards towards a political solution to this regional dispute.

Morocco was represented at this event by a delegation led by Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Mounia Boucetta.
