Morocco's Considerable Investments in Sahara Highlighted in UNSG Report

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres highlighted, in his latest report to the Security Council on the Moroccan Sahara, the considerable investments in infrastructure and economic development projects in the Southern Provinces of Morocco.

Guterres said in this report that his Personal Envoy visited many Morocco-funded development projects, including a Conference Center, a hospital, and a phosphate treatment unit in Laayoune, underlining that local populations were grateful for the financial support granted to the region, notably the new development model for the Southern Provinces, with a budget of 7.7 billion US dollars.

This financial support helped to improve infrastructure, health and education services throughout the region, he said.

This statement by the Secretary General is a recognition by the United Nations for Morocco's efforts, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI,  in favor of an economic development that is integrated, sustainable and generate wealth for the populations of the Southern Provinces.
