Morocco and Spain enjoy an "exemplary" cooperation in the fight against illegal immigration and terrorism, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, said Wednesday in Rabat.

The cooperation between the security services and the interior ministries of the two countries is "a model of inter-regional cooperation," Bourita pointed out at a press conference with his Spanish counterpart, Alfonso Dastis, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom.

Bourita recalled the meeting of the Rabat process initiated with Spain and that of the United Nations that Morocco will host in December to adopt the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.

In this regard, he highlighted the efforts made by Morocco in this area, in particular the launch of migrant regularization operations, and called on the Kingdom's partners, particularly the EU, to be more involved in this process, which needs a strong partnership with Europe.

Bourita said that his talks with his Spanish counterpart were an opportunity to discuss the means to enhance bilateral relations and to prepare the upcoming events, including the Moroccan-Spanish high level meeting which will be held very soon.

Spain is the largest trading partner of Morocco with more than 800 Spanish companies based in the Kingdom, he said, noting that 33% of Spanish investments in Africa are concentrated in Morocco.

Bourita also praised the constructive and positive role of Spain in the strengthening of the Morocco-EU partnership.
