Morocco, Niger Sign MoU to Promote Cooperation in Environmental Governance

Morocco and Niger signed, on Wednesday in Rabat, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation and coordination in the areas of environmental governance, liquid sanitation and waste management.

Signed by secretary of State for Sustainable Development, Nezha El Ouafi, and Niger's minister of Environment, Urban Environmental Sanitation and Sustainable Development, Almoustapha Garba, the memorandum also addresses climate change and nationally determined contributions, biodiversity as well as environmental and sustainable development education.

The two parties undertake to exchange information on each other's programs, publications, expertise and research results on environmental issues, capacity building and technical assistance, notably through the competence center on climate change and the exchange of visits by officials and experts from both countries.

The agreement also consists in the implementation of projects related to the fields mentioned in the memorandum, simultaneously in Morocco and Niger, particularly as part of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change, the preparation and implementation of triangular cooperation programs.
