Malawian FM Underlines Need to Strengthen Cooperation between Morocco and Southern African Development Community

Malawi's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emmanuel Fabiano, underlined on Tuesday in Rabat the need to strengthen cooperation, not only between Morocco and Malawi, but also between Morocco and all the countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

"The more cooperation there is between the countries of the SADC region and Morocco, the more it will facilitate the work of both sides at the African Union," Fabiano told reporters following talks with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.

The Malawian minister also recalled that the relations between his country and Morocco have developed since 2001, and many achievements have been made since 2017, with an exchange of visits of the officials of the two countries, which made it possible to prepare the bilateral agreements signed during this visit, adding that these agreements are meant to step up relations between the two countries.

On this occasion, Malawi's top diplomat expressed the wish of his country to benefit from the skills and experience of Morocco in several fields, including in training, foreign direct investment and trade.

Morocco, Malawi Sign Several Agreements to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, and his Malawian counterpart, Emmanuel Fabiano, signed on Tuesday in Rabat several agreements aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries in various areas.

The documents signed include a Memorandum of Understanding in tourism, a cooperation agreement in the areas of education and training and an agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and service passport holders.

These agreements were inked following talks between the two ministers.

These agreements will further strengthen the partnership between Morocco and the Republic of Malawi, Bourita told reporters.

Since Malawi withdrew its recognition of the so-called "SADR" in 2017, relations between the two countries have developed steadily through several visits of Moroccan and Malawian delegations, Bourita added.

Bilateral cooperation has also developed particularly in the areas of agriculture and water as well as in the scientific field, he noted.

For his part, Fabiano stressed the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation, not only between Morocco and Malawi, but also between Morocco and all the countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

The Malawian minister also recalled that the relations between his country and Morocco have developed since 2001, and many achievements have been made since 2017, with an exchange of visits of officials of the two countries which made it possible to prepare the bilateral agreements signed during this visit, adding that these agreements are meant to further strengthen relations between Morocco and Malawi.
