EU Position on Labeling of Moroccan Products Did Not Change (Spokesman)

The position of the European Union (EU) on the labeling of Moroccan products has not changed, said on Thursday in Brussels EU spokesman Peter Stano.

The EU stance remains as it has always been and applies to all imports into the European market from all countries or territories, including the Sahara "which is covered by the EU-Morocco agreement in the agricultural field that entered into force in July 2019," Stano added at his daily press briefing.

"The EU position on labeling is determined by the relevant Council Regulation No. 1234/2007 on the fruit and vegetable sectors, which sets out the criteria to be met for the commercialisation of these products", said the spokesman, noting that "the customs authorities of the member states are competent to ensure the implementation of the regulation".

The EU's position on the Sahara issue has not changed either, he pointed out, noting that the EU "fully supports" the UN process.

Stano explained that the EU position on this issue "is determined by the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, in particular that of October 2019".
